Scope of Works
This hospital has capacity for 12 adolescent patients up to 18 years of age. It is designed not to look like a hospital however has all the facilities you would expect in a hospital.
The electrical installation comprised the supply and installation of:-
- Sub-main cables serving distribution and sub-switchboards
- Sub-main cabling including termination to mechanical services panels
- Distribution boards and sub-switchboards
- Earthing system
- Isolating switches
- Luminaries complete with lamps, control gear and associated wiring
- Emergency and Exit lighting system
- General purpose power outlets and wiring
- Voice and data block facility cabling
- Telephone backbone cabling and field wiring
- Nurse call system
- Audio-Visual cabling
- MATV system
- Security System
- CCTV System
- Alarm/Access Control
- Electrical Door Locking System
- Body Protect Areas
Project Challenges
- Access of plant and equipment on site
- Coordinating specialist contractors on site
- Medical ‘Body Protect’ area requirements
- Concealed ceiling, ceiling height and access to location of services in space
- Installation of sub switchboards in to existing sub mains cables
- Connection of data, phone, security and nurse call systems in to existing systems ensuring compatibility
- Meeting rooms’ power and lighting requirements to satisfy patients needs
- Lighting specification changed significantly during project period in order to standardise lighting throughout the facility
- Wall lighting installation difficult as timbers needed to be added to rear of plaster to ensure proper fixing
Despite the specification constantly evolving (which created challenges particularly when rough-in had been completed) the project was completed on time.
ATS was a finalist for a NECA Award of Excellence in 2008 for this project.
